A U.S. Marine was just sent to prison for doing something that our Constitution gives every American the right to do.
Freedom Daily reported that Marine Joey Nelson was hanging out at home with his fiancé, child, and a few close friends when there was suddenly a violent pounding on their front door. Someone was clearly trying to force their way inside, and everyone in the residence was scared. Nelson immediately took action and grabbed his gun, as any other red-blooded American would have done, to protect his family.
Nelson told the pounding intruder to leave, but the person refused to do so. Bracing for the worst, Nelson opened the door to find 39-year-old Michael Wilson from Detroit Michigan standing there. Wilson opened fire and shot Nelson, hitting him in the hip. Nelson then returned fire as he told all the people in residence to run for cover downstairs and call 911.
In a horrifying twist, Nelson found himself being arrested when police arrived at the scene. The Marine, who was simply defending his home, was charged with assault with intent to commit murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearm possession. Nelson is facing life in prison if convicted, and the judge has set his bind at $150,000 with his next court appearance scheduled for next Thursday.
Nelson’s family cannot understand why police have taken the Marine into custody.
“He should be hailed a hero for defending his family,” said Steve Nelson, the Marine’s father.
Wilson, who shot at Nelson first, was only charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. His bond was only set at $5,000, and his next court appearance is also scheduled for Thursday.
It’s horrifying that a U.S. Marine is facing spending the rest of his life in prison simply for defending his home. SHARE this story if you think Joey Nelson should be released IMMEDIATELY!
